Trib: Idaho Now Deadbeat Heaven
In the Lewiston Tribune, Opinion Editor Marty Trillhaase writes about the House Judiciary & Rules Committee debacle re: the Child Support services bill:
“… Lawmakers panicked when Sen. Sheryl Nuxoll, R-Cottonwood, approached them with one loaded phrase: ‘Sharia law.’ How does she know? Because , she says, among the countries that signed the 2007 Hague Convention were Bosnia and Albania. Those “are Muslim-controlled countries … and they are governed under Islamic law,” she insisted. Anyone who knew anything about child support collection, federal law and the treaty was on one side. The ideologically pure Nuxoll and Idaho Freedom Foundation analyst Parrish Miller were on the other. But for nine of committee’s 17 members, Nuxoll was the smartest person in the room. They voted to kill the bill. The fallout has been swift. Short of a special legislative session to reverse Nuxoll’s handiwork, Idaho will be on its own in 60 days. Goodbye child support.” More here.
