Superficial spending

Regarding the April 10 front page story “Makeover targets sliver of Spokane” regarding $500,000 being spent at Division Street and Spokane Falls Boulevard: This “makeover” includes a $200,000 sculpture, and all of this to “remake Division Street as a more pleasant thoroughfare.”

Seriously?

I am sure that making Division “pleasant” to look at is the least of worries for the staff who run, and the people who use, such charities as Meals on Wheels, Vanessa Behan Nursery, Crosswalk, SNAP, Humane Society, etc. Let’s have a city that is pleasant for all to live in as our first priority. It’s like buying someone makeup when they haven’t eaten for a week.
