Cover Reardan, Edwall

While I appreciated the April 15 and April 19 articles on the Great Northern and Harrington school districts, I’d like to bring to your attention the case of the hybrid Reardan-Edwall school district.

Two-thirds of the land area of our district is in Lincoln County, encompassing the rural communities of Reardan and Edwall, with positive school-community dynamics similar to the Harrington district. Two-thirds of our students and over one-half our residents, however, are from Spokane County.

On the map in the April 19 paper, a large area on the West Plains appears to be without a school district. That’s us. We face the same challenges as the Great Northern district when it comes to communicating with district residents, with the added handicap of being invisible in the Spokane media because the school buildings are located over a county line.

We have classrooms with a single electrical outlet, and buildings that have not been renovated in over 30 years. We need to pass a bond in both counties. The Davenport Times communicates our situation to eastern Lincoln County voters, and they respond. It would be much appreciated if The Spokesman-Review would include the entire West Plains in all future education reporting.
