Ice Age Floods group offers lecture, tour

LANDSCAPES — A free lecture and field trip (by bus) are scheduled in May by the Cheney-Spokane Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute .

LECTURE: May 8, 7 p.m. at Auditorium, JFK Library, Eastern Washington University, JFK Library Auditorium in Cheney.

Dr. Gene Kiver will examine the geologic evidence and sequence of events that resulted in the formation of one of Washington’s most spectacular canyons.

FIELD TRIP –  May 9, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Spend the day on a deluxe bus tour led by Dr. Gene Kiver and Bruce Bjornstad to investigate the complications of the Flood story through Crab Creek and other flood coulees to the Lower Grand Coulee.

The Ice Age Floods Institute, Cheney-Spokane Chapter , is a nonprofit, volunteer-based organization that is committed to the recognition and presentation of the Ice Age Floods as a significant part of the nation’s, and worlds, natural heritage.  The IAFI Cheney-Spokane Chapter was established in 2003 and includes among its members many amateur and professional geologists, as well as members with interests or careers in other natural sciences and fields such as education, agriculture, outdoor recreation and community development.  We sponsor field trips and lectures; facilitate the exchange of information among interested individuals, organizations and agencies; and work to expand the range of interpretive resources and materials available to the public.
