Seniors get poor treatment
I recently watched a PBS documentary on the future of our senior loved ones. Millions of families are trying to understand how they will afford care for the loved ones who raised them. They must have 24-hour care due to medical maladies that our parents and grandparents face with age.
The average cost to place them in a senior care facility is $3,790 a month. This money gets them two meals a day; no choice, usually cold. Television extra. Two nurse checks a day. Doctor visits only when a nurse orders one. Medication costs unless covered by Social Security. One diaper change a day. No mental or psychological support. No dental coverage. Two showers a week.
Then I watched a documentary on Washington state prisons. Three hot meals a day with menu free. Daily showers. Free doctors and medication whenever sick. Free dental/dentures. Free cable TV. Twenty-four-hour-a-day monitoring. Health and exercise programs free. Psychological counselors 24/7 for free.
How about we put the prisoners in the old folks home and their families have to pay the $4,000 a month? Then move our senior loved ones into prison. Totally free and great care. It is so wrong.
