When will GOP dump Trump?

Leonard Pitts is one of my favorite guest editorial columnists appearing in The Spokesman-Review. He is intelligent, clear in expressing his views and always precisely focused on relevant issues of the day.

The July 20 offering, for example, zeroes in on the character (or lack thereof) of our latest national embarrassment and ultra-buffoon, Donald Trump. Pitts refers to Trump as a “loud-mouthed, attention seeking, self-aggrandizing carnival barker … unfit to be president.” Hard to argue with that bit of wisdom.

Pitts additionally asks the Republican Party why it continues to embrace politics of “bigotry and resentment, an estrangement from objective reality and a belief that the simplest, most simple-minded solution shouted in the loudest voice equals wisdom.” Again, unarguable wisdom.

I am an Independent politically; voting for the individual, not sheep-like for his or her party. Viewed from this perspective, I almost feel sorry for the Republicans and what is being sarcastically referred to in various sites as their “clown car” image. Makes me wonder how long they will tolerate Trump even referring to himself as a Republican. When will they distance themselves from this offensive fool? When will they finally say, “Trump, you’re fired”?
