Playing by Trump rules

Hello, my name is Donald Trump, and I’m sitting at a formal family dinner. It’s October 1967, and a pilot by the name of John McCain is shot down and taken prisoner in a country far away from my safe residence in the United States.

I’ll be rich, bold and important all my life, and in about 50 years I can boldly tell the world that I don’t respect McCain for letting himself get shot down. And, as an added bonus, I’ll be called a “tell-it-like-it-is” guy, and admired for my outspoken comment.

I don’t need to discuss the $18 trillion debt this country faces. To get attention, all I need to do is bring a personal conflict to the forefront and, voila, the audience eats it up. Is this a great country or what?
