Pope critics in for surprise

That Pope Francis’s popularity among U.S. conservatives has dropped (July 23) in the wake of the encyclical Laudato Si’s challenge to reduce our consumption, serve the poor and care for the Earth is disappointing but hardly surprising: Rejection is the response prophets typically receive from defenders of the status quo.

I don’t pretend to know God well, but I do suspect that those offended by Pope Francis are in for a real surprise when they finally meet Jesus.
