Stone left without ammo

Curtis Stone (July 25) presents himself as an authority while using half-truths to disparage gun controls. He says, “Gun ownership is high in Switzerland, but the Swiss have a low crime rate.”

Reminds me of the story of a margin note in a preacher’s sermon. It said, “Argument weak, yell like hell!”

What Stone doesn’t seem to know is that the Swiss military conscripts the vast majority of men between 20 and 30 and gives them automatic weapons, which they are required to keep in their homes. However, they’re prohibited from having any kind of military ammunition in their possession or homes unless they’re on special duty. Private ownership of all other fully automatic weapons is strictly prohibited, except under restricted licensing.

Our Second Amendment remains nebulous because the National Rifle Association blocks every attempt to update it. Thank goodness the Constitution didn’t preserve other outdated rights; like the right to duels to the death, to treat rivers as sewers, to transport infested foodstuffs across state lines, to operate unsanitary food services, and to drive on public streets without a license.
