Goodbye, Dog Days

I always figured that the ” dog days of summer ” was, basically, the month of August, the weeks when the summer was winding down. Now, as a result of a post by Paul Turner/The Slice , I realize the dog days run from about July 3 until — today. Aug. 11 is suppose to be the end of the mos tsultry period of summer. You should try telling the local weatherman that. I’ve broken a sweat every time I poked my head outside today. The temperatures were suppose to hit triple digits today through Friday.

Question: At The Slice, Paul Turner wonders if we should give some sort of acknowledgement for the last day of the dog days. Anyone?
