Edit: GOP Must Disavow Radicals
Former Twin Falls Times-News opinion editor Jon Alexander opines for the Southern Illinoisan:
Mainstream Republicans must finally disavow the increasingly dangerous radicals who’ve infiltrated the Party of Lincoln before it’s too late. Heavily armed right-wing vigilantes rolled into Ferguson, Missouri, Tuesday, stoking already inflamed racial tensions. A platoon of angry white men, calling themselves “Oath Keepers,” thought it would be a good idea to don paramilitary gear, strap on assault weapons and head to Ferguson. Racial tensions are again simmering as African-American protesters, marking the one-year anniversary of Micheal Brown’s death, clashed with police. Law enforcement had enough on their hands. The last thing they needed were self-appointed “constitutionalists” taunting an already unhappy mob with their special brand of gun-toting intimidation. Their presence was “both unnecessary and inflammatory,” said St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar in a statement. Belmar is absolutely correct. But, in today’s environment, no one should be surprised/ Jon Alexander , Southern Illinoisan. More here .
Question: Do most people associate radical groups like the Oath Keepers with mainstream Republicans?
