DISH Users Lose KXLY Access

DISH Network television subscribers in Spokane have lost access to KXLY-TV because the two companies couldn’t agree on the price of broadcasting. KXLY said in a statement that thousands of viewers are affected by the decision, which blocks access to the station’s local news, college football and ABC programming. The agreement between the companies expired at 9 p.m. Thursday. DISH said in a statement that KXLY demanded “higher fees than DISH currently pays for any other station nationwide” and accused the station of abusing “in-market monopoly power.” KXLY said DISH refused the station’s third offer to extend the service agreement. “We have agreements with other cable and satellite carriers,” KXLY general manager Teddie Gibbon said in the statement. “We are only seeking a fee from DISH which mirrors those other agreements.” KXLY still is available for local viewers who use other television providers/ SR.

Question: This doesn’t affect me this time (because I’ve switched to Time-Warner). But it has in the past. I say a pox on both sides for allowing this to happen. Thoughts?
