Jeers: Silent Crane’s Voice
In his Cheers & Jeers column today, Opinion Editor Marty Trillhaase offers JEERS to — to Idaho Treasurer Ron Crane:
Rather than face reporters himself, this third-tier state official has secured the services of public relations consultant Mike Tracy. Tracy, who established his bona fides first with the Idaho Farm Bureau and then as press secretary to former U.S. Sen. Larry Craig, is drawing $4,000 a month for 10 hours of work each week, reports the Idaho Statesman’s Bill Dentzer. Controller Brandon Woolf answers his own phone calls. Lt. Gov. Brad Little has no official mouthpiece. Even Secretary of State Lawerence “Boss” Denney - who has endured the jabs of this page for years - speaks for himself. Those officials who do rely on a full-time press spokesman pay them nothing close to Tracy’s compensation. More here.
