Use recycled water
When the Joe Albi Sports Complex was built about six years ago, the irrigation system was put in to use recycled water. The recycled water was supposed to come from the sewage treatment plant, which is about three-quarters of a mile south of the sports complex. But what has been happening since the sports complex has been built is that the irrigation system has been connected to the city water system, which is fed by the Spokane aquifer. So this drinking water is being used to water all the baseball, soccer and football fields.
During this time of drought, you would think someone at City Hall could figure out how to use the recycled water from the treatment plant instead of just dumping it in the Spokane River. If they can’t figure out how to do this, they can just go to the many cities and towns in the Southwest where they use recycled water to irrigate their parks and playing fields.
Mayor David Condon should step on some toes and get-er-done. While he’s at it, he can fix our crumbling streets.
