Best deal keeps club private

Regarding Phillip Tyler’s Aug. 14 letter, I will respond: He asks why a country club, in a city struggling to recover from various issues, would consider the M Club Holdings bid to buy it. The answer is quite simple. The vast majority of members voted in favor of M Club, as it provides the best viable option to keep the club private, as opposed to semi-private/publicly accessible. These are the same reasons members enter private clubs to start with.

The city of Spokane’s foibles aren’t the business of the club, nor are our concerns, as a private organization, the concerns of nonmembers. There is no need to justify our desires to Phillips or anyone else who is not a member. I would kindly suggest that keeping one’s nose out of the affairs of others was a lesson learned from my mother that is applicable today.

While I don’t dispute the Kalispels would be good stewards of the facility, their offer doesn’t meet private club criteria that the membership desires. Therefore, we are vastly in favor of the Mickelson group offer, provided all debts are covered through the sale and no one is further harmed by this situation.
