ROW Adventures Owner Fights To Save Lodge
On Facebook, Coeur d’Alene’s Peter Grubb of ROW Adventure Center, Sea Kayak Adventures and River Dance Lodge in Syringa, Idaho, writes of the scary times trying to save the lodge from central Idaho wildfires. Peter and his wife and business partner, Betsy Bowen, built the lodge in 2002:
“We’re at our River Dance Lodge with a 50+ person USFS fire fighting crew, 2 big fire trucks from Jerome, Idaho (8 hours away) that came to help. Crews have cut dozer lines and hand lines in a perimeter around the hamlet of Syringa where there are about 10 homes and our lodge buildings. Fires moved last night within about 3/4 of lodge. Looked better this morning after cool night air. Winds predicted for today have arrived, but not terrible yet. Fire moving towards us now - 2:30 pm and helicopter dumping water on it, but it’s a big fire. We are in Stage 3 Evacuation mode. All our employees have left. We bought a 1975 Chevy Fire Truck and drove it down two days ago to have our own back up. So many fires going in the West and resources are thin. Six of our river guide crew came up late last night to help too with thinning of trees, bushes, etc. Hope where you live is not on fire.”
