Supporting Woodard, Wood

In Spokane Valley this next year we have three council seats open for re-election. Two are contested, one isn’t. Dean Grafos is unchallenged. I personally know all the candidates. Ben Wick is being challenged by Sam Wood. I hope that these two will run a clean and truthful campaign. I have no reason to think that they won’t.

My concern, as with others who know Arne Woodard and Tom Towey, is that this race is already being set up with untruths about Woodard. Towey is stating as fact that Woodard wants to stop the contract with Spokane County sheriff, and start our own Spokane Valley police force. This is an untruth.

Woodard has checked out the costs of our own police force to compare with the contract we have with the county. That is exactly what we should expect of our council members.

Remember that Towey was our mayor for a few years. During that time, he voted to take the automatic 1 percent annual property tax that is allowed by our state. The rest of the council has voted no for the past six years. Arne Woodard and Sam Wood will get my vote this fall as responsible stewards of our money.
