Fan laments KVNI program change

Former Coeur d’Alene Councilman Mike Kennedy isn’t excited about plans to transform Lake City’s KVNI-AM into a Top 40s/1980s music station. Already, The corporate Powers That Be in Spokane have sent KVNI’s 24/7/365 sports radio format packing in favor of round-the-clock Christmas music. “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer”? Blech. Says Mike: “I like sports radio, live games, sports talk, whatever. It’s a welcome refuge from the blather of political talk radio. I like Mariners games, Seahawks games as well as Idaho games, etc. And the signal from Spokane isn’t strong enough to get them over here reliably without static. If there are no Mariners … on KVNI, I’ll never listen to it. I can (and do) get ’80s music on satellite radio, but I can’t get local pro sports there. It’s like local radio is dead in even slightly rural areas in America these days.” There is a glimmer of hope here, however. KVNI will continue to offer Seattle Mariners broadcasts, according to executive producer Melissa Deis of KVNI’s sister station KXLY. So Mariners fans will have a spring and summer of listening enjoyment with broadcaster Rick Rizzs & Co. – until the M’s fall out of playoff contention again/DFO, Sunday Huckleberries. More here.
