About 70 people gathered in the second-floor rotunda of the state Capitol this evening for a Chanukah menorah-lighting ceremony that included remarks from Boise Police Chief Bill Bones, Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden, state Treasurer Ron Crane, and state Rep. Hy Kloc, D-Boise, along with Chabad of Idaho Rabbi Mendel Lifschitz. “We are here celebrating our freedom, our faith, and ultimately our unity,” Lifschitz told the crowd, which included Jews and non-Jews alike. “A little light expels a lot of darkness.”

The ceremony included music and traditional Chanukah refreshments, including potato latkes with applesauce.
