I choose self-defense

As a law-abiding, reasonably sane citizen of this country, the U.S. Constitution gives me the right to keep and bear arms. If you think the government is going to protect you from people like Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik or any other not so law-abiding citizens that cause the majority of gun deaths, I’m happy for you. I, on the other hand, prefer to protect myself.

I don’t advocate that you must own a gun. Why do you advocate that I can’t? If you don’t like guns, don’t buy one.

The Spokesman-Review invites original letters on local topics of public interest. Your letter must adhere to the following rules:

  • No more than 250 words
  • We reserve the right to reject letters that are not factually correct, racist or are written with malice.
  • We cannot accept more than one letter a month from the same writer.
  • With each letter, include your daytime phone number and street address.
  • The Spokesman-Review retains the nonexclusive right to archive and re-publish any material submitted for publication.
