Illegal ATV ride nets jail time for Utah commissioner

Ryan Bundy, son of the Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, rides an ATV into Recapture Canyon north of Blanding, Utah on Saturday, May 10, 2014, in a protest against what demonstrators call the federal government's overreaching control of public lands. The area has been closed to motorized use since 2007 when an illegal trail was found that cuts through Ancestral Puebloan ruins. The canyon is open to hikers and horseback riders. OFF-ROADING — This is one way to get a county official to put in some quality time at county facilities.

Wonder if it will help him learn respect for federal public lands?

Utah county commissioner gets 10 days in jail for illegal ATV ride
San Juan County Commissioner Phil Lyman, who was convicted in May of misdemeanor offenses for organizing an illegal ATV ride into Utah’s Recapture Canyon which had been closed to motorized travel by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management was sentenced to 10 days in jail and three years probation on those convictions recently.
