Free lunch could cost worker job

Dalene Bowden admits that she broke the rules, but she’s not apologizing and says she would do exactly the same thing again. Bowden, a lunch worker at Irving Middle School, said she was placed on unpaid leave Dec. 15 after giving a free lunch to a 12-year-old student who didn’t have money to pay for her hot meal. “I love my job, I really do,” Bowden said. “This just breaks my heart, and I was in the wrong, but what do you do when the kid tells you that they’re hungry, and they don’t have any money?
