Movie lineup change: No ‘Carol’ on Friday
Bad new for movie fans: AMC River Park Square reports that it isn’t going to open “Carol” on Friday. It may open the film next week.
This isn’t completely bad, of course. With all the other films opening on Christmas day, both at “Carol” was bound to get lost in the mix. This way it may get the attention it deserves. And if AMC still doesn’t open it, maybe the Magic Lantern may be able to pick it up.
Anyway, here are some of the reviews that “Carol” is receiving:
Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post : ” ‘Carol’ possesses the same quiet, catlike powers of its magnetic title character: It swirls around to ambush you … and make you swoon.”
Steven Rea, Philadelphia Inquirer : “Mara and Blanchett are each extraordinary, working in the most organic and soul-stirring ways.”
Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times : “As its bravura filmmaking unfolds, those specifics fade and what remains are the feelings and emotions that all the best movie love stories create. And make no mistake, ‘Carol’ belongs in that group.”
Although the release of “Carol” will be postponed, I wrote a review for Spokane Public Radio that will be broadcast Friday morning. I’ll post a transcription of that review here. So stay tuned.
