Nonprofit mailings proliferate
Hilde Schoonover wrote (Jan. 18) an excellent letter regarding mail from all types of nonprofits. Over the years, I have saved the mailings and put them in a shoe box. In the fall, I then select a few to send funds to.
The mailings in 2014 were unbelievable. After removing the contents, they have filled over an apple box full. I would estimate the total number of mailings to be around 2,000. 2015 is starting out the same way.
Also last year, there was no end of surveys. It would be almost a full-time job to fill them all out and, of course, they all want donations.
In 2013, I thought I would send a small amount to one nonprofit, and there has been no end of expensive mailings since. You tell these nonprofits that you will make only one donation a year, and they send you monthly mailings anyway, or call asking for more. No matter how much you give, they want more.
I come to the point where I think I will donate only locally and forget the national organizations since they will not listen.
