Just Wondering …

We’ve been focusing on the tree cut along Dike Road, one that’s obviously far greater than the 30% of 1,000 that was forecast a year ago. But I’ve been noticing an interesting aside during my noon walks. Obviously, no cars are parked along the dike while the work goes on. They’re now parked — comfortably — in the new dirt on the northern edge of North Idaho College (behind the library). Which raises the question: Wouldn’t it be a good time to end parking along the Dike Road? During good weather, I ride my bike enough to know that the combination of traffic, pedestrians, pedestrians with dogs, joggers, bicyclists and parked cars create a safety hazard along the Dike Road. The roadway would be much safer if parking was eliminated and those on foot and two wheels could use both sides. Moving cars should still be allowed because the view of our waterfront is incredible. And not all can walk the Dike Road.

Question: Should the city eliminate parking from along Dike Road?
