Reconsider Julyamsh decision

After reading your Jan. 4 editorial about the decision to cancel the Julyamsh event at Greyhound Park due to the installation of instant horse racing machines there, I couldn’t agree with you more. It enhances the problem and cures nothing.

That event is one of the premier happenings in our area and provides a tremendous boost to our economy. Let’s solve problems, not avoid them. I think some serious conversation between the Coeur d’Alene Tribe and Greyhound Park could have solved this issue in a manner that would have benefited us all, instead of harming us more.

This was an unfortunate decision, and one that I hope can be changed (as was the Diamond Cup Regatta on Lake Coeur d’Alene). We cannot afford to eliminate these national events, which bring our area to the limelight of millions. I sincerely hope the entire decision can be reviewed and reconsidered. The sooner the better.
