Merica: ‘50 Shades’ = ‘Twilight’
Merica
(RE:
Kerri: 50 Shades of abuse
): I’ve read the books. They were as annoying/captivating as the Twilight Series, which the 50 Shades were based on as a fan fiction piece. I’m curious for those who are taking a stand on the 50 Shades. Did they have similar issues with Twilight storylines? I
found the plots to be similar and irritating. Both stories have scenarios where the man is rich, willing to spoil the heroine, and has “life rules” they live by. The heroine spends all her time obsessing over the man, worrying about how to please him, and offering to change in order to make things work. Both heroines at one point worried about making the guy mad. Both offered themes that would make most parents cringe (and that’s without the BDSM discussion involved). Yet both books/movies are incredibly popular. So is the moral outrage over the bondage you imagine detailed (since many proudly say they haven’t read)? Or can we agree that messages of any kind (vampire or bondage) that involve the girl willing to go to any length to please a Mr. Wrong sort of guy is just a bad message overall?
Question: Do you see parallels between “50 Shades of Grey” and “Twilight”?
