Extend payroll tax on rich
On Feb. 10, the top 1 percent of income earners in America stopped paying into Social Security. This is because, right now, only the first $118,500 of a wage earner’s income is subject to the payroll tax that funds Social Security.
When millionaires and billionaires start paying into Social Security at the same rate as the rest of us, we cannot only extend the lifespan of the Social Security trust fund, we can afford to increase benefits for the majority of Americans.
I stand with Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Social Security Works in demanding that the millionaire class begin paying their fair share into Social Security.
Instead of manufacturing a false Social Security crisis to cut earned benefits for millions of Americans, including disabled veterans and workers, members of Congress should be working to find solutions that protect and expand the most popular social program in the history of the United States. Expand, don’t cut, Social Security.
Tell your representative and senators and demand they stop working for the rich 1 percent. Now.
