Negligent hunters a concern

I’ve never written a letter to the paper before, but I felt compelled to respond after reading about the latest example of a negligent hunter killing a gray wolf he “mistook” for a coyote (Spokesman-Review Feb. 12).

There are too many stories about negligent hunters killing grizzlies mistaken for black bears. They have also been known to shoot their hunting partners and their own horses in their frenzy to bag an animal. Seriously, are these the kind of people we want wandering around with lethal weapons?

If you can’t positively identify what you’re shooting at, then don’t shoot! I suggest that any negligent hunter who uses the excuse of misidentification should have their hunting privilege revoked.

What next? Are you gonna shoot my German shepherd dog because you “mistook” him for a coyote?
