Verlin sticks to apology statement, declines further comment on incident

Idaho coach Don Verlin met with the media on Tuesday afternoon for the first time since his binder-throwing and shouting incident with assistant coach Chris Helbling last Thursday night.

Verlin offered this apology last night over his conduct, apologizing for his actions and accepting disciplinary action from the university.

The seventh-year Idaho coach offered no further comment on the incident this afternoon.

“Made a statement yesterday and that’s the statement I’m sticking by. What we’re going to do as a basketball program is move forward,” Verlin said.

When asked if he had no comment on Helbling’s role in the incident, Verlin responded “That’s correct.”

Helbling was present on the bench when Idaho faced Southern Utah last Saturday and is expected to be with the team Thursday night when the Vandals face Montana at Memorial Gym.
