A scientist points out a seismogram display on a monitor just set up at CenturyLink Field in Seattle today. Scientists with the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network installed the instruments to record expected vibrations from jumping and stomping fans at Saturday’s Seattle Seahawks playoff game against the Carolina Panthers. Scientists with the network are using monitors at the stadium to look for problems they might encounter with a real earthquake and are also testing technology that could provide an early warning of underground shaking.
