Mindset of destruction
The concept that fragile man must multiply to subdue the environment is outdated by centuries. But as the world population currently exceeds 7 billion, there continues a prevailing belief every birth is a “blessing.” Some celebrate narcissists with 19 children on television.
The concept that all people should have a basic right to sustenance is remote, as political pressure and capitalistic greed rules. A large faction looks to the heavens for answers as they ignore global warming and world hunger. Humanity’s arrogant belief that the rules of nature don’t apply to them as to (lesser) species is the recipe for Armageddon, not the second coming. The next world war might be over food.
This common mindset to destruction can be found in Patrick Kirlin’s Dec. 31 letter. Many think it’s a god-given right to have as many offspring as they want. They will create hell on Earth if any pressure is applied to control birth rates. And hell is what they will create.
Michael Ramirez’s Jan. 3 cartoon implies the current pope is politically motivated. In its long history, when has the Vatican not been political? Only difference is he doesn’t like the politics of this pope. Nothing profound here. Clever, he’s not.
