Kerri: Funerals Are Important

(RE:
Is ‘Sorry for your loss’ too trite?’
): My dad has been gone for a decade and I still have people who knew him, especially people
who work at the courthouse, say to me how much he’s missed. It means a lot even after all of this time. What I do is be present at funerals, the literal and figurative way to pay respects to the person who’s passed away and to show the family that their loved one mattered. I received a great number of cards and notes when my father died and one that is especially dear is a handwritten letter from Louise Shadduck. She not only said she was sorry for my loss but shared a few funny remembrances of my dad. I agree with Digger, I appreciate the ritual of mourning that a traditional funeral provides.
Question: Do you want a full-blown funeral when you check out?
