Don Wants Waterfront Lot, Too

Don Sausser (RE: Deanna Goodlander: Keep Independence Point parking lot ): Randy, you glossed over Deanna’s main point, access by the aged and handicapped. Since I live with a direct view of the point I am very familiar with parking issues. Of course, during Sumner, it is often full. But much of the year I observe cars parked toward the view occupied by seniors just taking in the magnificent view, without having to leave their cars. It also is a great opportunity for travelers just passing through to get a quickie look at our wonderful waterfront. Keep in mind that many aged folks that are not classified as handicapped experience limited mobility that prevents walking from nearby parking. I sometimes think that planners perform their duties from overhead (Google Earth), visualizing a continuous green strip from park to park without considering ground level practicality. They would do well to “live the scene” for a few days. I’m with Deanna on this issue.
