Thanks for Hebdo decision
I commend you for publishing (Jan. 15) the controversial cover photo of Charlie Hebdo. As a practicing Christian, I often find cartoons mocking Christians offensive, but I believe firmly in freedom of speech and religion, realizing that not everyone believes the same as me and that’s their personal choice.
By publishing the Charlie Hebdo photo, The Spokesman-Review is merely exercising its right of freedom of the press. Do I agree personally with poking fun at religions? No, I do not. But when a religious group threatens violence on account of being offended, they’re just proving the point all the more.
No one has the right to force others to do what they believe should be done. That goes for Christians, Muslims, atheists, Buddhists, etc. Everyone must come to their own decisions on their own.
If more people would come to realize that, perhaps our world would become a little less offended and more tolerant of everyone’s beliefs. We cannot force others to believe what we think is right.
Thank you Spokesman-Review and Editor Gary Graham for supporting freedom of speech and the press.
