Do You Want Cancer?! She Explained

“Sam and Zach are going swimming at Grandma’s. I stop them as they head out the door. “Wait! Do you want sunscreen or skin cancer!?” “Skin cancer,” they both say, slamming the door behind them. Grrr… This mothering thing ain’t easy” — Cindy, via Facebook.

DFO: As a kid, is used to mow, rake & haul hay for hours on summer days in California’s Sacramento Valley, stripped down to cutoffs. I baked golden brown. Never thought of skin cancer. Don’t think much of it now, either — even when Mrs. O yells at me, like Cindy, that I’ll get skin cancer if I garden or mow the lawn in my cutoffs. It may happen some day. But I. Can’t. Stand. Sun screen. I hate rubbing it onto my skin only to sweat it off, leaving uneven sun burns. How about you?

Question: Do you usually rub on sun-tan lotion when you expect to be out in the sun for any length of time?
