My2Cents: Put Carousel Here
As Greg Lee and I were walking around McEuen Park during the lunch hour, we discussed the Coeur d’Alene Carousel — and which spot would be perfect for it. We considered the large, grassy area on the west side of the park. There’s certainly enough room in the expanse. But it would block attempts to use the field for large, outdoor events. The argument that McEuen Park would be the best place for the Carousel holds water. People are now using the park year round (including the many little kids and their parents at the playground this afternoon). And there’s no residents to annoy with lights and music (other than the 6 houses on the north side of Tubbs Hill). Then, it hit us. McEuen Park has a perfect site for the Carousel, one that would expand the use of the nearby playground and splash pad. The city should remove the under-utilized tennis courts — and put the Carousel there. You’d have a parking area nearby. And all the foot traffic your little heart would desire. You wouldn’t be blocking lake views (Independence Point or Memorial Field). And you wouldn’t be an after thought (behind Memorial Field). Seems like a good solution to Greg & I.
