CPD To Replace Sgt. Moore’s Patrol Car
The Coeur d’Alene Police Department can’t file an insurance claim to replace the car driven by Sgt. Greg Moore on the night of his slaying
in the line of duty. This fact came to light Tuesday when the City Council approved a request from Police Chief Lee White for $56,144 to purchase another patrol car. Seems Sgt. Moore’s vehicle could be kept for decades as evidence while the murder case against Jonathan Daniel Renfro, of Rathdrum, plays out in district and appeals courts. According to the vehicle policy, the insurance company would pay for replacement if collision or other damages were involved. But the insurance company doesn’t have to pay for loss of a vehicle caused by retention by another police agency (the Kootenai County Prosecutor’s Office). So, the City Council OK’d a request from White to spend $150,000 from department savings to buy 4 investigative/detective cars and to dip into General Fund surplus for a new patrol car.
You can read all about it from City Clerk Renata McLeod’s minutes here.
