Represent the people

Shawn Vestal’s “Window dressing (July 10)” speaks perfectly to our current Spokane mayoral and council priorities. We are sprucing up downtown entries (while our homeless beg for money at the same sites), paying over $60 million for one park, planning our own bridge to nowhere for $14 million, and providing deals for our new Davenport Grand Hotel.

The median family income for Spokane, $42,092, is $16,000 below the state average of $58,405. And 20 percent of our city employees make over $100,000. Spokane, like the rest of the nation, is moving to a city of the haves and the have-nots.

And in the July 16 article on the mayoral candidates, only the mayor’s name is listed on the front page. Unbiased journalism?

If you are as concerned about the state of the city as I am, I urge you to join me in the support of Shar Lichty for mayor and John Waite, City Council candidate for District 2, two individuals who will truly represent we the people.
