Packaged water a scam
The other day, I read an article discussing organic foods. The online discussion in the comments section was interesting in its content. There were points brought up regarding impressions of what organic foods are defined as, along with whether there were tangible benefits that made the prices worth it.
Some were describing organic foods as nothing other than a marketing technique to get people to spend more money on food with exaggerated markups; to profit the growers and sellers. Perhaps that may be true in some cases, and false marketing claims are a good thing for a consumer to be savvy about.
In respect to that, I’ve pondered how many of these savvy commentators are drinking water from plastic bottles bought in stores instead of doing the smart thing, like grabbing a glassful from the tap. If anyone wants to see a scam that dwarfs concerns over organic food claims, look at the packaged water industry. They’re the ones laughing at you behind your back, all the way to the bank.
