The owners of the Coeur d’Alene Resort want the city the vacate part of a street next to the hotel so they can build a new tower on the spot. Hagadone Hospitality Co. has applied to have a portion of Front Avenue vacated between the resort and the Resort Plaza Shops just to the north. The new tower would straddle Front, keeping the street-level space open as a breezeway for the Centennial Trail, pedestrians, emergency vehicles and city utility access. The proposal, filed Friday with the city’s engineering department, comes 16 months after the City Council voted unanimously to approve a Hagadone proposal to turn Front into a pedestrian plaza between Second and Third streets, make Second Street one-way traffic from Front to Sherman Avenue, cut down street trees in the area and make other changes across 2 acres in front of the resort. The company spent $1 million on that work last year after the city gave its blessing/ Scott Maben , SR. More here.
