Search should be unbiased

If Todd Mielke is the best candidate for the job of Spokane County chief executive officer, then he will be appointed, even if the search and appointment is fairly and openly conducted.

All three commissioners must choose the honorable path and agree to a new and unbiased search, untainted by rumors that this position was being “saved” for him, or by clear evidence of small-town cronyism.

The roles for clean governmental processes are clear and well-known. Elected officials need to demonstrate a commitment to their best to all of their constituents, not to give special consideration to their personal interests or to show favoritism to certain people.

The media need to provide accurate and unbiased information to the public. The public needs to be observant, informed and to vote accordingly.
