Dems, GOP alike take low road

Jim Morin’s June 4 cartoon reeks of partisan hypocrisy, implying that the Republican Party is rife with scandals and has conceded the “moral high ground.” In the interest of fairness, why not note the scandals of the Democrats, as well?

Here’s a partial listing to help you get started:

Governors: Neil Goldschmidt of Oregon; James McGreevey of New Jersey; Don Siegelman of Alabama; and Rod Blagojevich of Illinois.

U.S. Representatives: Barney Frank of Massachusetts; Melvin Jay Reynolds, Jesse Jackson Jr. and Dan Rostenkowski of Illinois; John Murtha and Raymond Lederer of Pennsylvania; Gerry Studds of Mississippi; Frank Thompson Jr. of New Jersey; Michael Myers and Mario Biaggi of New York; John Jenrette of South Carolina; Alcee Hastings of Florida; Edward Mezvinsky of Iowa; and James Traficant of Ohio.

U.S. Senators: Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts; Harrison Williams of New Jersey; and Christopher Dodd of Connecticut.

And the list goes on; not to mention the serial scandals involving Hillary and Bill “I did-not-have-sex-with- that-woman” Clinton. I guess that in Morin’s defense he wouldn’t have had enough room for that many garbage cans. My point is simply this: Politicians are human and some do stray from the high moral ground, but no one party has the monopoly on the malady.
