Don’t judge auditor
As a subscriber of The Spokesman-Review for over 20 years, I was so disappointed to see your editorial about our current state auditor. You have taken the position of investigator, prosecuting attorney and final judge of the elected official. However, the investigation has not been formally completed.
I have no opinion of whether the man did or did not do what you are accusing him of. However, our governor and your paper have already held your trial and have passed sentence. What kind of journalism is that? Your job is to report what is happening in this case. Some folks would call what you are doing “yellow journalism.”
Let the authorities make the investigations, assemble the facts, file charges, hold a trial if the investigation warrants and sentence the man, if convicted. Speculation is not worth the paper it’s written on, and I don’t buy your paper for your speculations. I want to know what is happening, not what you think should happen. Professionalism in journalism is needed so much. Report on what you know. Let me make the decision on whether he is guilty or not.
