Oliveria should apologize

It is hard to accept when a writer of a local paper does a character assassination on someone without getting all of the available information. Dave Oliveria started his Feb. 15 column with a slam on Rep. Sage Dixon, R-Ponderay. If Oliveria and Marty Trillhaase of the Lewiston Tribune had done their homework, they could have easily discovered that the National Rifle Association gave Dixon only its endorsement and never one cent for anything, much less campaign funding.

That endorsement attested to Dixon’s commitment to protection of the Second Amendment, as well as all the other amendments. They would, in fact, have found Dixon to be a strong supporter of the U.S. Constitution as well as the republic with even a minimal amount of investigation.

I contacted a Dixon spokesman and received this background information: “Sage was asked to carry the Bill by both The Friends of the NRA and the Transportation Committee Chair. Being a supporter of the 2nd Amendment Sage said yes. He thought it would be a good Bill to learn the process of presenting a Bill in committee and on the House floor.”

Apologies should be forthcoming!
