Edit: Anti-Corruption Czar Needed
Twin Falls Times-News editorial:
G ov. C.L. “Butch” Otter’s administration, at present, is ground zero for Idaho’s rampant cronyism and malfeasance. And placing a new corruption investigator within his regime would amount to asking the wolf to guard the flock. Otter’s administration, just in the past two years, has cost taxpayers tens of millions in lawsuits and settlements. Idaho Education Network, Correction Corporation of America — the list goes on. And, while grumbling plenty, lawmakers have avoided coming out and speaking their minds. That’s politics in a one-party state. Finally, last week, House Minority Leader John Rusche pitched the creation of an Office of the Inspector General. And, by narrowly advancing the Democrat’s bill, members of the GOP-dominated House State Affairs Committee let their votes speak for them. But the post would be a gubernatorial appointment, under Rusche’s bill. It’s a counter-productive pitch, which has just recently proved its failings elsewhere/ Twin Falls Times-News . More here .
Question: ‘Rampant cronyism and malfeasance.” That sums up why Idaho needs an anti-corruption czar. Thoughts?
