Appleway Trail construction begins again

First phase nearly complete: A worker uses a wheel to measure distance for electric cable to supply lighting along the Appleway Trail on Tuesday near University Road. The trail between University and Evergreen roads is beginning to take shape, with the first phase between University and Pines roads near completion. The trail is being built along the old Milwaukee Road rail right-of-way south of Sprague Avenue. The estimated cost of the first section is $1.4 million. The plan is for the trail to be part of an expansive trail system in Spokane Valley and is built for pedestrians and bicyclists. To see the full plan visit www.spokanevalley.org/ApplewayTrail. This is the first phase of the Appleway Trail and it’s expected to be finished by the end of May. The trail is being built along the old Milwaukee Road rail right-of-way south of Sprague Avenue. The cost of the first section is $1.4 million and it’s being funded by Spokane Valley. The next segment of the trail, running from Pines to Evergreen Roads, will be funded by Federal Grants and matching funding from Spokane Valley.

The finished trail will connect with Liberty Lake and construction is expected to be completed in 2018.
