Net neutrality important

I think there is a misconception amongst too many what the term “Internet neutrality’ means for us, the users of what is really a necessity in many people’s everyday lives. The Internet truly is more like a utility, the same as water, power and telecommunications. Without it, life for many would be very difficult.

Companies like Comcast and Verizon would like to use this much-needed utility to profit by establishing monopolistic practices that include a “pay to play” business model in addition to just being providers of the communication pipelines. This means that if an online entrepreneur finds profit, companies like Comcast want a cut of those profits by charging extra to ensure uninterrupted Internet service on top of what is already paid for.

The implications of the Comcasts of the Internet being allowed to do this would establish a golden rule upon it: He who has the gold, makes the rules. Freedom on the Internet would only be for those that have deep enough pockets to afford it.
