Grizzly bears in Cascades generate mixed emotions

This grizzly bear was photographed by a backpacker in North Cascades National park in October, 2010. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service experts later confirmed it as a grizzly -- the first to be photographed in a half a century in the U.S. portion of the range. (Joe Sebille)

THREATENED SPECIES — While there’s support for reintroducing grizzly bears into the North Cascades to spark a regional recovery effort, the sentiment certainly isn’t unanimous at the public meetings that are being conducted in communities along Washington’s iconic mountain range.
