Traffic violations unpunished

I was not at all surprised by the March 5 story on speeders in school zones in north Spokane. As a courier for a local company, I drive city streets daily. Never do I see anyone pulled over for a traffic violation.

Some years ago it wasn’t uncommon, but not now. It’s become somewhat of a free-for-all out on the roads these days. Folks speed, run red lights, have expired tabs, fail to use turn signals, many are chatting away on their cellphones, etc. – all with no consequences.

The cops I do see are either just driving around or at the scene of some accident. What happened to all the new cops the city was supposed to hire? The fines these officers could levy against the many poor drivers could easily pay for their training and salaries.
